About Otalith

Otalith Music Festival was conceptualized by a few young, West Coast keeners with an ambitious idea.  Their community had recently lost their principal music promoter, and this left a large hole in the local music scene.  The group came together and formed as The Pacific Rim Music Festival Society (PRMFS). Their aim was to promote tourism and community development through arts and entertainment by way of an annual music festival.

And what better place to do it than their home, the pacific playground that is Tofino and Ucluelet.  Perched on what feels like the edge of the earth is an almost mystical place, where the trees grow larger-than-life, and frothy surf pounds against endless stretches of perfect sand.  This was the setting they chose as their backdrop for the world’s most intimate music festival.

After a lot of hard work, calloused hands and high-fives, their vision came to fruition in 2013, when the very first Otalith was put on.  It proved to be a great success, and was met with rave reviews from the local community.

The PRMFS is now gearing up for the fifth Otalith festival, and they’re excited to announce it is going to be bigger than ever. Past years have seen artist highlights such as Shakey Graves, The Dodo's, The Black Lips, Current Swell, Bright Light Social Hour, Allah las, Jon and Roy, Fidlar, The Coup, People Under The Stairs, Jesse Roper and many more. The festival grows every year, and now includes the exclusive use of the Ucluelet Campground, which is just a stone’s-throw away from the festival grounds. Otalith might be getting bigger, but it’s organizers are striving to keep it intimate.  Their community and environment come first, and they wish to hold a festival that continues to respect both.

The PRMFS plays a key role in the development of a healthy entertainment industry on the Pacific Coast. It is run by a small group of dedicated volunteers who have a desire to bring exceptional live music to Vancouver Island. All proceeds are donated in support of local initiatives. This year the Jamie Collins: Legend and Legacy Fund and Pacific Wild will again be an integral part of our message and accepting the proceeds raised.

Come for the music, come for the world-class scenery, come for the people.  The PRMFS wants to see you at Otalith this year!
